Given the dialogue around the election, here’s a stunning figure: In 2024, the House majority was decided by just 7,309 votes across three districts out of 148 million votes cast nationwide. That’s less than the population of Monmouth, Illinois!



Yet, the post-election autopsies online and in some corners of the Capitol seem convinced that Democrats’ problems exclusively boil down to “identity” politics.

I think many of these people need to get offline and around real people who want to get to know each other and rally around each other’s challenges. And remember that our best days are when we work together to solve problems, not rip each other apart over our differences.

We mustn’t omit vulnerable people because an opposing party vilified them in an election. We mustn’t create scapegoats out of issues that affect entire communities. Democrats need to focus on lifting all ships, not sinking an innocent few who only dare to be themselves.
