Local Spotlight: Crime Stoppers of Houston Raises Over $2 Million at the “Raise ‘Em Up for Texas” Annual Gala
Gala(1)

Crime Stoppers of Houston hosted its annual “Raise ‘Em Up for Texas” gala on October 24, 2024, at The Revaire, drawing over 400 supporters for a lively celebration that raised more than $2 million. The funds will bolster Crime Stoppers’ mission to prevent crime and promote safety across Texas, particularly through the Safe School Institute.

Chaired by Dr. Elizabeth McIngvale-Mackey and Matt Mackey, alongside Michelle and Jonathan Zadok, the event featured an engaging evening of entertainment and heartfelt speeches. The Texas-themed celebration kicked off with a vibrant happy hour, silent auction, and raffle, followed by a warm welcome from Houston Media Icon Dave Ward and Houston Mayor John Whitmire. Crime Stoppers CEO Rania Mankarious spoke about the organization’s safety initiatives, underscoring the impact of the Safe School Institute.

Special guest Dr. Renu Khator of the University of Houston recounted how an anonymous Crime Stoppers tip helped prevent a potential mass shooting, illustrating the program’s lifesaving role. The evening also included the debut of the McIngvale Family Humanitarian Award, presented to The John M. O’Quinn Foundation for their generous $500,000 contribution to the Safe School Institute.

The event continued with an exciting live auction, stories from youth like Seven “Shamir” Francis, and a fundraising drive that added $500,000 to the evening’s success. Actor Matthew McConaughey contributed with a congratulatory video, and the festivities concluded with a raffle win and lively country dancing.
