We must win these elections or Republicans will take over and enact their extremist agenda in Virginia, including an abortion ban. Moreover, if we do not maintain our majorities, the constitutional amendments protecting abortion rights, gay marriage, and voting rights for people convicted of felonies who are now re-entering society will never come before the voters.
Speak to Lawmakers About Your Priorities for 2025:
The Arlington League of Women Voters will be hosting a pre-session town hall meeting on Monday, December 16th. You may sign up here. If you can’t make the meeting, contact your lawmakers through our websites and let us know what’s on your mind.
The Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee is also hosting virtual public hearings on January 3rd at 10am to receive comments on the governor’s budget proposals. If you would like to sign up to speak, you may register the day before the hearings, on January 2nd. You can find out more information here.
My Draft Legislative Agenda:
In addition to stopping Youngkin-style proposals intended to bring Trump’s agenda to Virginia, I am hoping to pass legislation that will make healthcare services and access to mental health services more affordable.
I will also focus on prison re-entry programs, rehabilitative programs, and more mental health services for juveniles who interface with the juvenile justice system.
As part of my continuing efforts to help those with special needs fully integrate into society, I hope to pass a bill that limits the ability of the judicial system to deny voting rights to those under a guardianship order. Moreover, I will continue to work to help those on a developmental disability waiver maintain their waiver eligibility if they are also social security and disability income (SSDI) recipients, among other initiatives.
I will give you a more complete preview of my legislative agenda in the next couple of weeks. Please do not hesitate to contact my office if you have an issue you believe we should work on in the 2025 session.
I hope you’ll visit my website at barbarafavola.org and subscribe to my regular newsletters and updates to learn about the important work we are doing on your behalf. We also have a dynamic social media presence through Facebook and X. I hope you’ll follow our work using one or both of those platforms.
You may also track legislation through Virginia’s Legislative Information System. Additionally, the Commonwealth’s General Assembly website is a useful tool to navigate the state legislature. You can follow events, find pertinent information, observe sessions, and monitor committee meetings through the site.
