John,
I know your inbox must be flooded with dozens of appeals from worthy causes in these final days of the year. I understand how difficult it is to decide the best way to allocate your charitable giving. I’m feeling overwhelmed myself, especially with so many deadlines coming up.
I know that I’m going head-to-head with some heart-wrenching stories about baby elephants, national forests, and so much more. And that’s not easy competition – those pictures and stories really tug at your heartstrings.
Unfortunately, democracy doesn’t have an adorable mascot, but as I know you’re aware, giving to Common Cause means giving back to other worthy causes you care about.
Here at Common Cause, we’re fighting for a free and fair democracy that represents people like you, and makes sure that Big Money and special interests don’t get a louder voice than the rest of us.
This, in turn, allows you to create a democratic system that lets you fight for the things you care about and will stand strong for you, your children, your grandchildren and the baby elephants too.
John, we’ve been hard at work securing a stronger, more representative democracy for all of us.
And after a record-breaking marathon of a general election, we jumped right back into the fight: stopping Matt Gaetz’s nomination for Attorney General and challenging legislation that would strip non-profits of their First Amendment right to dissent.
We’re just getting started. We expect the second Trump administration to pose new threats to our democracy – and we must be ready to meet them.
There’s a lot at stake with incoming administration, and we know that having the best voting rights lawyers on the case isn’t enough, so we’re also organizing a major public education campaign – using people power to hold the Supreme Court, Congress, and state legislatures accountable to the people.
As you can see, we’ve got a lot on our plates. And to be honest, we’re exhausted – like I'm sure many of you are – after this year’s midterm elections. But we know there’s too much to lose if we stop fighting now.
Common Cause is pulling out all the stops to fight for a democracy where we all will have a voice. One where you see your elected officials fight for all the causes you care about. But we can’t do this alone.
That’s why I’m asking you to consider a contribution to Common Cause.
The team tells me we need to raise $500,000 between now and End of Year to do everything we want. A generous supporter has already stepped up to get us halfway there and is counting on members like you to get us the rest of the way there.
John, can you rush a $3 contribution to Common Cause today, before our last deadline of the year?
Working together, you and I can live up to the challenge of this moment. Together, we will defend our democracy and prevail.
Thanks for all you do,
Daryl Lobban, Senior Vice President of External Affairs
and the team at Common Cause
