Re-Elected to Serve As SBC Chairman
I am grateful to my colleagues for entrusting me to serve another term as Chairman of the House Committee on Small Business in the 119th Congress. Under my leadership, this committee will continue to be a fierce advocate for the men and women of Main Street America, fighting for accountability and common sense in the federal government. As a small business owner for over 50 years, I know first-hand just how destructive the Biden-Harris Administration’s policies were to small businesses across the country, and we are ready to provide them with much needed relief. The House Committee on Small Business is ready to work with President Trump to enact pro-business policies that promote economic growth and support America’s innovators and entrepreneurs.
Boots to Business Passed in NDAA
The National Defense Authorization Act includes one of the first bills the House Committee on Small Business passed in 2023, of which I was an original cosponsor, codifying the SBA’s Boots to Business Program. Boots to Business has provided assistance to tens of thousands of veterans starting their entrepreneurial journey. America’s service members put their lives on the line for us, and we owe it to them to provide the resources they need to be successful in civilian life. By capitalizing on service members’ unique skills, we can help them to become successful entrepreneurs and fully achieve the American Dream. Read my full release here.
Met With Texas Land Commissioner
I was glad to meet with Texas Land Commissioner, Dawn Buckingham, in my D.C. office to discuss disaster recovery programs and hear an update on Texas coastal efforts. Sufficient funding and efficient programs are vital to protect Texans from the aftermath of natural disasters. I am proud to work with Commissioner Buckingham to ensure funds from these critical programs are not being misused.
Met With Texas Bankers Association Leadership
I met with leaders of the Texas Bankers Association to discuss priorities for the 119th Congress. As Chairman, I will continue to lead the fight in creating easier access to capital, eliminating crippling over-regulations and burdensome red tape, limiting compliance costs, and creating policies that allow community banks to grow and thrive.
Champion of Limited Government Award
This week, Institute for Legislative Analysis presented me with the "Champion of Limited Government" award. As your Representative in Congress, I remain committed to protecting our constitutional freedoms and stopping dangerous government overreach.
Farewell to Chairwoman Granger
It was an honor to speak on the floor to recognize the career and accomplishments of my lifelong friend, Kay Granger. Throughout the years, I have watched her lead in the classroom, on the city council, as mayor, Congresswoman, and Chairwoman. She has truly lived a life worth being copied. Watch my remarks here.
In God we trust,
