Dear John,
The 2017 tax law is set to expire in December 2025, and Congressional Republicans are already pushing to extend it indefinitely.
The price tag? A staggering $4.6 trillion added to the federal deficit, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
Their draconian solution to offset these costs is to gut Medicaid and other programs that millions of Americans depend on for survival.
Republicans are advocating for permanent tax breaks that overwhelmingly benefit the wealthiest Americans and large corporations. Meanwhile, their budget proposals, including the Republican Study Committee’s FY2025 blueprint and Project 2025, reveal plans for severe cuts to Medicaid, SNAP (food stamps), and similar safety net programs. This would directly threaten the nearly 80 million people who rely on Medicaid or CHIP for health care.
Now is the time to act. Send a message to Congress: Protect Medicaid and reject any plan to pay for tax cuts for the rich by taking health care away from millions.
Here’s what’s at stake: If the 2017 tax cuts are made permanent, they will cost $288.5 billion in the first year alone. According to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, 63% of those benefits would flow to the richest 20%, while the poorest 20% of Americans would see just 1% of the windfall. To finance these tax breaks for the wealthy, Republicans would slash funding for health care and basic necessities, leaving millions without critical support.
Cuts to Medicaid would have devastating consequences. Limiting access to health care will cost lives. Forcing people to live without the care they need will lead to avoidable suffering and, in some cases, preventable deaths. Congress has a moral obligation to protect programs like Medicaid and reject this reckless assault on public health.
Tell Congress to reject plans to cut Medicaid to pay for tax cuts for the rich!
Thank you for demanding that lawmakers prioritize people over profits.
