John,
Imagine living through bone-chilling sleet, snow and wind in an unheated shelter. You sleep on a cold floor, shivering under a threadbare blanket. Without warm boots, clothes, coats and gloves, your body feels cold to the core, but watching your children suffer is even more painful.
This is the harsh reality for refugees and displaced families in the world’s most fragile, crisis-stricken contexts, and they need our support to survive.

[SYRIA] Syrians left homeless by armed conflict continue to live under harsh conditions at a tent city during the winter season.
Right now, millions of children and families in crisis zones like Ukraine, Gaza, Syria and Afghanistan are struggling to survive as temperatures plummet.
The IRC is working to rush aid to people hit hardest—but we urgently need to expand our efforts in the coming weeks as temperatures continue to fall and the danger for children and families grows.
You can help to keep families safe, dry and warm this winter. And starting now, your gift will be 2X MATCHED by a generous donor to make the largest impact possible. »

[Gaza] Children wrap themselves with a blanket to keep warm on a cold day in Gaza city.
As winter grips Gaza, temperatures will drop below 10°C at night, creating harsh conditions for displaced families in need of adequate shelter, blankets and warm clothing. Families are struggling to survive in makeshift shelters that barely protect them from the bitter cold.
Rains, severe flooding, freezing temperatures, hunger and shortages of food and clean water, and the collapse of essential health services are compounding the crisis, raising the risk of epidemics in crowded areas.

[Ukraine] Vira, a retired schoolteacher from Kyiv, now resides alone in Kherson, where she endured many hardships of war, including shelling and flooding.
Families in Ukraine are facing a brutal winter. As temperatures plummet, people are suffering from barrages of missile strikes. Ruined homes and power grids have not been fully repaired, and the increased attacks on critical infrastructure are causing more widespread destruction. Families go weeks without power, forcing them to endure the ongoing conflict without light, warm water or heating.

[Afghanistan] Because of a winter drought and intensified food shortages, baby Shams Ullah (just 10 months old in this picture) was showing signs of malnutrition. His dad brought him to the IRC mobile medical clinic, where he received treatment and began to recover (showing a renewed energy!).
Harsh weather conditions are only deepening the humanitarian needs of the 6.3 million displaced people in Afghanistan. Many families are living in temporary shelters that leave them with little or no protection from the elements.
Families living in remote and hard-to-reach areas also don’t have proper insulation and heating systems in their homes, making it difficult for them to stay warm and healthy.
