Weekly Parliamentary Diary
Fighting against a No Deal Brexit
As the return of Parliament edges closer, talk amongst MPs about how we stop a catastrophic no deal Brexit has ramped up significantly.

The Government have continued to grandstand on the prospect of a hard or no deal Brexit, ending formal negotiations with our EU partners and threatening to suspend Parliament. I am extremely worried about the political crisis facing our country and the dark, populist and reckless politics Johnson's Government signals.

Any suggestion of shutting down Parliament to force a No Deal Brexit on 31st October is both disturbing and ludicrous. In my view, anyone proposing it is not fit to be Prime Minister. The Prime Minister is desperate to take us out of the EU on the 31^st October and straight into the arms of Donald Trump. This is why Labour has offered to work with other Parties in a vote of no confidence, leading to an emergency government so the people of this country can decide their future.

The damage caused by this reckless hard Brexit will be felt for generations and goes beyond party politics. I will work with any MP from any party to stop a no deal Brexit and have our voices heard with the final say
.

Supporting Marc Palmer alongside the First Minister

It was great to welcome our First Minister for Wales, Mark Drakeford, to Whitchurch earlier this week to campaign with our brilliant Labour council candidate for Whitchurch and Tongwynlais, Marc Palmer.

Some really positive discussions with local residents to our unequivical Remain position with lots of support for Marc. For more information on our council by-election candidate or to raise any issues with either me or Marc please get in touch at [email protected] or [email protected]
Progress on plastics ... but more needs to be done

I was proud to help lead on plastic bag reduction for the Welsh Labour Government back in 2011. Wales now has the third best recycling rates in the world.

Our innovation paved the way for UK wide action. We've changed hearts and minds on the issue, but there is still a long way to go in the war on plastics.

That's why I'm leading a campaign for Extended Producer Responsibility, putting more responsibility on the producer - to fix our broken system that allows packaging to be shipped overseas and into our oceans.
Summer BBQ at Llwynfedw Gardens

Thank you to everyone who came to my Summer BBQ at Llwynfedw Gardens on Saturday. It was a fantastic turnout, despite the weather!

It was great to chat to local members and constituents who, like me, are extremely worried about the political crisis facing our country with the appointment of Boris Johnson and his administration's reckless politics. I am committed to campaigning relentlessly against a catastrophic no-deal Brexit and we need to be ready to take on the fight again, here in Cardiff North!
Cardiff For Europe
It was great to be a part of Cardiff for Europe's social event yesterday evening at Ride My Bike Cafe. As part of a nationwide People's Vote action, Cardiff for Europe hosted a social evening as an opportunity to find out more about their campaign and share thoughts about what more needs to be done.

It was a great opportunity to meet some fantastic and committed Europeans and I look forward to marching alongside you all at the People's Vote March on 19th October!

Have your say on Welsh development plans for 2040
You can have your say on where you think new homes, jobs and services should be located in Wales over the next 20 years.

This week Welsh Government opened its public consultation on the National Development Framework. The Framework sets the direction for where new homes, jobs and services will be located as well as identifying areas for renewable energy generation.

LGBT+ Labour Wales Pledge
Ahead of Pride Cymru taking place in Cardiff later this month, I was once again delighted to support the LGBT+ Labour Wales pledge.

This pledge reminds us that we must continue to fight against homophobia and all forms of discrimination across our society.

You can view details of the pledge above and show your support by signing up to it

Constituency Surgery

I had another busy surgery this week with constituents raising issues with the Home Office and Student Finance, as well as the difficulties Leaseholders continue to face with Housing Associations.

For details of upcoming surgeries, please contact the Office on 02920 624440.

Homeless World Cup comes to Cardiff
I went along to the wonderful Homeless World Cup in Bute Park recently. It was great to be at the event which is doing great work in highlighting the problem with homelessness across the world.

I pledged to play my part in ending homelessness by demanding the U.K Tory Government end the waiting times for Universal Credit. The disastrous rollout of this policy is pushing people further and further into poverty, placing them under unnecessary financial pressure and all too often ends up in homelessness.
Party in the Park 4 at Llwynfedw Gardens Park this summer
Friends of Llwynfedw Gardens will once again be hosting their annual Party in the Park event this August. The event promises to be a great afternoon for all the ages with live bands, great food and entertainment for all ages. Please come along and support this brilliant event where all funds raised will go towards improving the facilities.
As always, please get in touch with your feedback!
