Businesses and Workers Get Win with Permanent Work Permit Extension Rule [[link removed]]
On December 13, the Biden administration issued a permanent rule that automatically extends the validity of certain work permits by up to 540 days if they are timely renewed. The American Immigration Council made this a key ask to the outgoing administration to protect workers from employment gaps as U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) continues to address its processing backlogs.

President Biden has just over one month left in office. He can still take decisive action to protect people at risk of indiscriminate immigration enforcement.
Among other priorities, the Council encourages the administration to protect DACA recipients; extend and redesignate Temporary Protected Status for certain countries; and rescind remaining Trump-era immigration regulations.

Last week, the Council testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee during a critical hearing on mass deportations. We explained how mass deportations are not only inhumane but also costly.
The testimony emphasizes that Congress needs to create a new path to permanent legal status for undocumented people already living in the United States.
