Dear friend,

Did you know the FDA banned the use of Red Dye No. 3 in cosmetics and some drugs due to its link to cancer in rats? But it’s still allowed in our food more than 30 years later.

The FDA has delayed action on a petition to ban Red Dye No. 3 filed by EWG and other consumer protection groups. This should be a no-brainer – it’s an easy win for public health. Please join EWG in asking President Biden to protect the health of our kids and ban this cancer-linked food dye once and for all.

Tell the White House: Finalize the ban on Red Dye No. 3 before leaving office!

The FDA should follow its own science and ban this chemical from our food. Just look at the facts:

•
While banned in cosmetics, this known cancer-causing chemical lingers in candy our kids eat, such as Nerds, candy corn and SweeTarts.
•
After seeing “convincing” evidence in the 1980s that Red Dye No. 3 causes cancer, the FDA announced plans to remove it from food – but met pressure from the maraschino cherry industry.
•
California has already acted to ban Red Dye No. 3, in a science-backed, nation-leading effort.

We need the Biden administration to take this action NOW to protect our health – and not wait before it is too late. Please join us in asking the White House to remove Red Dye No. 3 from the list of approved additives in food.

Thanks for seizing the moment to get Red Dye No. 3 out of our food once and for all, friend.
