A PERSONAL NOTE
Good morning!
It's hard to believe that Christmas is only ten days away! This year has somehow felt like it lasted forever, but it also feels shocking that it's nearly over. The passage of time can be a strange thing.
We are nearly done with our preparations. Our gifts to friends and family this year is enchiladas. My daughter and I will spend next weekend making trays and trays of beef, chicken, and black bean enchiladas. They'll be able to be frozen and baked at any time in the future and will provide our loved ones with a tasty, from-scratch meal. A while back, we began doing some kind of meal as a gift instead of cookies, and it's always been appreciated.
A few of you have noticed that some of our websites are no longer being updated. Preppers Daily News and The Frugalite are both on hiatus for the time being. The business is
struggling financially, and after meeting with my accountant, I made the decision to marshall all our resources into the two main websites: The Organic Prepper and Self-Reliance and Survival. This isn't a cry for sympathy or help - I just wanted to clear up the questions that I keep seeing in the comments section.
The OP has always been my primary mission. I sincerely hope that with the Trump Administration, we'll stop facing financial attacks and become profitable once again. I began this site twelve years ago this month, and it has grown into more than a website - our comments section is a community. I often find myself wishing that I could live in the same neighborhood with many of you - imagine what a community that would be!
The next week will be filled with wrapping gifts, doing some last-minute decorating, and getting prepared for the big day! Our family tradition has been spending the day in our pajamas,
eating Chinese food, and watching the Die Hard movies for more than a decade. We get matching PJs and look forward to this every single year. It's so nice to relax instead of spending the day in a rush, getting from place to place and being all dressed up.
Back when my kids were little, their father and I decided that we would keep Christmas day for our immediate family. That way, the girls could play with their new toys, and it wasn't frazzling. We always did our religious celebrations the day before, and the bigger extended-family event the day after Christmas.
The thing I noticed about splitting things up in this way is that not only is it more relaxing, we also enjoy simple things more. When holidays are a non-stop whoop-ti-do, it feels like every year has to be bigger and more expensive than the last. Taking it as a time to be comfortable, eat good food, and enjoy time with the people I love the most has been a
wonderful tradition, one that I hope my girls continue long after I'm gone.
I came across this video on X today and wanted to share it with you. It is so quietly patriotic that it brought tears to my eyes.
We're facing threats to our food supply from many different angles: supply chain breakdowns, drought, food facilities being ravaged by fires, skyrocketing inflation, and outright shortages. No longer can we live in the comfort of unthreatened abundance. We're learning exactly how delicate the system really is.
Prepping and putting back supplies is incredibly important but what we're seeing now goes beyond that. You have to be able to produce and acquire more food. You have to be able to put back your harvests to eat during the winter. You have to be able to prepare items that once were as convenient as popping open a can or little plastic container.
You need a paperback copy of How to Feed Your Family No Matter What, our Organic Prepper anthology with ALL of our content about food. You'll get more than 500 pages of content that are all about food when you can't just go to the store and buy whatever
you want.
