Paying for articles you can get for free might seem unnecessary, but when you pitch in $25 or $50, it helps sustain our newsroom, allowing our journalists to investigate tips, gather data, and visit schools nationwide. And just as important, reader support demonstrates that our journalism is valued. Those readers who make donations and become members are supporting a vital public service for teachers, students and families. Ask yourself this:

• Do you think it’s important to stay informed on what is happening in schools?

• Has a Hechinger article helped you understand a complex issue?

• Do you think we cover under-reported issues that mainstream media doesn’t cover?
