Twelve years ago today, a devastating tragedy took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School that claimed the lives of 20 children and 6 educators. The events that unfolded on that day left a nation in mourning.

I can never fully comprehend the depth of loss endured by the communities affected. My heart is with them today and every day as they navigate a grief that no one should have to endure.

On this somber anniversary, we honor the lives of those who were taken too soon. Additionally, we recognize the strength of the survivors and the unwavering resilience of the Sandy Hook community.

Today serves as a solemn reminder of the work that needs to be done to address the epidemic of gun violence across the country. Let us take a moment to reflect on what needs to be done, and strive for a world where every child and teacher feels safe in the classroom.
