Last week, The Daily Show highlighted a disturbing trend in Florida: our state leads the nation in banning books from public schools. One man, Bruce Friedman—dubbed the "Michael Jordan of book banning"—has personally challenged over 900 books in just two years.

That’s literally a pace of challenging more than one book per day.

Friedman isn’t just targeting explicit material. He’s gone after children’s books like Star Wars graphic novels because they feature an alien that didn’t advertise whether it was male or female. Classics like The Handmaid’s Tale and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings have also been pulled from school shelves under Florida’s extreme censorship laws.

The truth is, these book bans aren’t just about content—they’re about control. Now, parents are beginning to speak out about the fact that they don’t want strangers telling them how to parent their kids. But Friedman's relentless attacks—and the laws pushed by Moms for Liberty, Governor DeSantis, and Florida's GOP—are limiting those opportunities for our kids.
