H.R. 9495 has been dubbed the “Nonprofit Killer” because it would give the Treasury Secretary unchecked power to revoke any U.S. nonprofit’s tax-exempt status by merely claiming – with no evidence or due process – that the organization is linked to terrorism.

Trump is returning to office promising to punish his political enemies and critics, and the possibility of him abusing this legislation to attack nonprofits that oppose his policies or expose his misdeeds is extremely high.

With a Republican-led Congress working hand-in-hand with the Trump administration, we’re certain to see more dangerous bills like this next year. If our outcry against this bill is loud enough now, we can build the power needed to resist their impending assaults on our communities.
