Notes from the Office of Speaker Mike Johnson Hello, friends! Thank you for subscribing to the office of Speaker Johnson's newsletter highlighting what's happening on Capitol Hill and in Louisiana's 4th Congressional District. | This week, the House of Representatives ensured our military has the necessary resources and support to defend our great nation by passing the annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The FY25 NDAA refocuses our military on its core mission of defending America, rather than on woke ideology. Speaker Johnson and his Republican colleagues included important wins for our troops, such as a 14.5% pay raise for junior enlisted service members. The legislation supports law enforcement operations and the deployment of the National Guard to the southwest border, expedites innovation and reduces the acquisition timeline for new weaponry, supports our allies, and strengthens our nuclear posture and missile defense programs. The safety and security of the American people is a top priority, and this bill ensures our military has the resources and capabilities needed to remain the most powerful force in the world. Trump released their final investigative report. Over the past five months, the Task Force worked diligently to understand what went wrong on that tragic day that killed an American patriot and almost cost President Trump his life, to ensure accountability, and to prevent such an agency failure from ever happening again. Their investigation found that the Secret Service’s failures in planning, execution, and leadership in Butler, Pennsylvania, extended beyond the events of that day and revealed a culture in desperate need of reform. Speaker Johnson called on Acting Director Ronald Rowe to enact as many of the 32 recommendations made by the Task Force as possible and for Congress to review the five legislative recommendations. We should never again experience such a dangerous and deadly security failure. You can read the final report, with all 37 recommendations, from the House Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald Trump here. | On Monday, Speaker Johnson had the pleasure of hosting the annual celebration of Sir Winston Churchill. Speaker Johnson has always admired Churchill, considering him a personal hero. He taught the world that history is written by those who sought to do good or those who sought to do evil. The British Bulldog made sure history was written by those who sought to do good. | Monday's verdict for Daniel Penny is a victory for Daniel and America. He’s a hero who saved lives, and the trial should’ve never happened in the first place. Lafayette’s address was delivered 200 years ago on December 10, 1824. Marquis de Lafayette, an honorary American citizen, served as a major general in the Revolutionary War, was a close confidant of George Washington, and made a profound impact on our great nation. His portrait hangs in the Chamber of the House of Representatives. Additionally, Speaker Johnson joined the hosts of FOX & Friends Saturday to discuss President Trump's cabinet nominees, like Pete Hegseth, and the creation of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). According to a responding paramedic with over two decades of experience, the two deputies performed the best law enforcement CPR he had ever seen. Deputies Lindsey and Latin both received a well-deserved award from DeSoto Parish Sheriff Jayson Richardson.
