Dear Friends,

As we approach the year's end, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support throughout my first term as your DeKalb County Commissioner for Super District 6. Your dedication has been instrumental in everything we’ve achieved together.

I'm excited to invite you to a holiday celebration on Tuesday, December 17th, at 5:30 PM at NightOwl Kitchen and Cocktails. This gathering is our opportunity to connect, share some holiday cheer, and look forward to what’s ahead.

Super District 6 End of Year Celebration

Date: Tuesday, December 17

Time: 5:30 - 7:30 pm

Location: NiteOwl Kitchen and Cocktails (6 Olive St #119, Avondale Estates, GA 30002

A look at what we've achieved in 2024:

  • We kicked off the year by establishing a DeKalb County Environmental Justice Commission, a resident-led advisory board that will prioritize environmental justice concerns and work to create a more sustainable and equitable future for DeKalb County.
  • Fought for additional funding to address critical issues like walkability, animal services, homeless outreach, mental health support, and public safety in the new operating budget.
  • The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners passed my 2023 resolution committing to the transformation of the South River Forest—an essential step toward protecting one of our most vital natural resources.
  • Southface Institute introduced a draft of the 100% Clean Energy and Transportation Transition Plan to the DeKalb County Operations (OPS) Committee. This milestone was the result of my 2021 resolution committing DeKalb County to achieve 100% Clean Energy by 2050.
  • I advocated for DeKalb County to commit to building a composting facility within the next three years, which will advance our sustainability efforts.
  • We worked with the City of Avondale Estates to launch a pilot of our Curbside Composting Program. So far, it has diverted over 30,000 pounds of food waste from the landfill!
  • Approximately 7 acres of wildflower meadows were planted along DeKalb County roadsides, reducing intensive landscaping maintenance, beautifying our communities, and promoting healthy soils.
  • My office appropriated $52,000 to various organizations to support Environmental Youth Programming, Environmental Justice Education, and vital data collection on the environmental health of DeKalb County.
  • We organized and supported several Town Halls and community events, reaching thousands of DeKalb County residents to ensure your voices are heard and amplified.
  • I partnered with DeKalb County Planning and Sustainability and over 20 organizations to host World Planning Day, featuring the DeKalb Green New Deal Festival.
  • We passed our Paid Leave Proposal, securing important protections for DeKalb County employees to ensure they have the time and support they need to care for themselves and their families.

Let’s raise a glass together and celebrate the community that makes DeKalb such a special place to live and thrive. I hope to see you there!

Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful holiday season.

Warmly,

Commissioner Ted Terry

P.S. We will also be hosting a supply drive for our furry friends at the DeKalb Animal Shelter, so please bring an item if you can!
