Donald Trump (R) has announced all of his Cabinet nominees

 
 
With Inauguration Day just a bit more than a month away, President-elect Donald Trump (R) spent last week putting the finishing touches on his Cabinet. Trump finished announcing his Cabinet-level nominees on Dec. 4, with the announcement of Kelly Loeffler (R) as his nominee for administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration. Trump announced his full Cabinet by the 29th day following the general election.

There were 63.6% more enacted election-related bills in 2024 compared to 2022

 
 
On Thursday, we released our State of Election Administration Legislation 2024 Year-End Report. The report covers all election-related legislative activity in the 46 states that held legislative sessions between Jan. 1 and Nov. 22, 2024. We tracked 3,820 election-related bills in 2024. That is a 2.7% increase compared to 2023 and a 52.5% increase compared to 2022.

Alaska retains ranked-choice voting system after measure recount, five other states reject system

 
 
A recount in Alaska concluded on Dec. 9, confirming that the votes to retain ranked-choice voting (RCV) in the state, which the state adopted in 2020 and implemented in 2022, had the majority by 743 votes. 

The defeat of Ballot Question 2, which would have repealed RCV,  is the only victory from the Nov. 5 election for RCV proponents at the state level. Voters in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, and Oregon defeated measures that would or could (in the case of Arizona) have adopted the system in their respective states. One state, Missouri, approved an amendment to preempt the adoption of ranked-choice voting at the state level.
