Our Votes This Week - Critical Legislation to Protect Consumer Choice, Strengthen our Military, and Expand U.S. District Court Judgeships

This week, I supported critical legislation to reduce costs and protect consumer choice for American families, strengthen our military, and expand U.S. district judgeships in a neutral, non-political manner. Top bills are as follows:

  1. H.R. 7673 – Liberty in Laundry – Rep. Andy Ogles (TN-5)
    • This legislation reduces costs for American families and protects consumer choice by preventing the outgoing Biden-Harris Administration from prescribing energy efficiency standards for washing machines that are not technologically feasible and economically justified.

  2. H.R. 5009 – Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) – Rep. Mike Rogers (AL-3)
    • The FY25 NDAA makes vital investments to deter Russia and Chinese aggression, defend our ally Israel, boost our warfighting capabilities, and diminish some of the woke agenda infused in our military ranks in recent years. It also makes necessary improvements to servicemember quality of life, provides our troops with crucial pay-increases, and secures critical funding for Dobbins Air Reserve Base.

  3. S. 4199 – Judicial Understaffing Delays Getting Emergencies Solved (JUDGES) Act – Sen. Todd Young (R-IN)
    • This legislation reduces costs for American families and protects consumer choice by preventing the outgoing Biden-Harris Administration from prescribing energy efficiency standards for washing machines that are not technologically feasible and economically justified.

Draining the Swamp and Restoring Government Transparency

The American people deserve a government they can be proud of, not one they fear and distrust. Rebuilding that trust and reforming the federal government must begin with a dedicated, efficient, and committed workforce. That's why, this week, I reintroduced my legislation, the Modern Employment Reform, Improvement, and Transformation (MERIT) Act to hold inefficient, corrupt government bureaucrats accountable.

This critical legislation would create a more efficient and effective government that works for the people. It would restructure the federal employment code, by modeling employee dismissal with that of the private sector and lessening the time it takes to root out misconduct and poor performance.

I am also encouraged that the work that will be done by Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy, and the incoming Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) will be complimentary of MERIT, and I look forward to working with them and my colleagues to get it passed in the U.S. House.

Supporting the FY25 National Defense Authorization Act and Critical Funding for Dobbins ARB

As a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in communications and intelligence, I know that America's national security depends on the critical need to restore strength in our military and ensure it is equipped with all the tools it needs to protect our nation. That's why I voted for the final negotiated language for H.R. 5009, the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for FY25 to deter Russian and Chinese aggression, defend our ally Israel, boost our warfighting capabilities, and diminish some of the woke agenda infused in our military in recent years.

It also makes necessary improvements to service member quality of life, provides our troops with needed pay increases, and secures critical funding for Dobbins Air Reserve Base.

Congratulating our 2024 Congressional App Challenge Winners

It is crucial that the next generation is well-equipped with the skills necessary to protect our nation from cyber threats. Events like the Congressional App Challenge, a non-partisan competition open to middle and high school students, are an excellent way to spark curiosity in computer science and cybersecurity and encourage them to advance their education and pursue careers in these critically important fields.

The talents of the students of Georgia's 11th Congressional District continues to inspire me, and make me proud for the future of our country. I appreciate all who participated in this challenge, and congratulate our winners. North Cobb Christian School students Kameron Fournillier, Jason Osborn, Nathan Stinson, and Jade Zebrowski won FIRST Place for their CTrack app.

Washington Examiner: What's Next for our Oversight Subcommittee J6 Investigation

This week, I spoke with the Washington Examiner about the next steps in our House Administration Committee's Oversight Subcommittee investigation into the events of January 6th, highlighting the importance of creating a new House Select Committee in the 119th Congress to continue our work. The goal of a potential new select committee would be to issue recommendations and legislation to reform security measures, including changes to how top officials in the Capitol are selected.

Rep. Loudermilk on the Mark Levin Show: Our Investigation into Jan. 6 Must Continue

In case you missed it, this week, I called into the Mark Levin Show to discuss the latest in our House Administration Committee's Oversight Subcommittee investigation into the events of January 6th. Specifically, we discussed how Pelosi's Select Committee predetermined the conclusions of their final report and selectively disclosed evidence that supported their narrative. They also suppressed key information exonerating President Trump.

Rep. Loudermilk Joins Veterans in Congress on Letter Endorsing Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense

This week, I joined Rep. August Pfluger (TX-11) and over 30 military veterans serving in the U.S. House in sending a letter to Senate leadership expressing our strong endorsement of President Trump's nomination of Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense.

Rep. Loudermilk Joins Letter Demanding FinCEN Provide Small Business Clarity Amid Ongoing Legal Challenges

This week, I joined Reps. Dan Meuser (PA-9), Blaine Luetkemeyer (MI-3) and others on a letter to Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) Director Andrea Gacki calling on the agency to issue guidance related to the recent injunction on enforcing FinCEN's burdensome Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) reporting requirements. The letter also urged FinCEN to formally delay these BOI requirements until legal challenges are resolved.

Read the full letter here.

BACKGROUND

BOI reporting requirements under the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) mandate that small businesses report extensive ownership and control information to FinCEN. The rules from FinCEN are overly burdensome and confusing for small businesses. Furthermore, the January 1, 2025, enforcement deadline gives businesses insufficient time to adapt amidst legal uncertainties following a preliminary injunction. If small businesses do not comply by Jan. 1, they face a penalty of up to $10,000.

The court case, Texas Top Cop Shop, Inc. v. Garland, resulted in a preliminary injunction by Judge Amos Mazzant, finding the CTA and its rules likely unconstitutional. The decision halts enforcement temporarily but creates ambiguity for small businesses about their compliance obligations.

Rep. Loudermilk Joins Letter Urging Reauthorization of Special Diabetes Program

This week, I joined Reps. Gus Bilirakis (FL-12), Diane DeGette (CO-1) on a letter urging House leadership to continue their support of the Special Diabetes Program (SDP) and asked for its reauthorization prior to its expiration at the end of December.

Click here to read the full letter.

BACKGROUND

The Special Diabetes Program (SDP) is comprised of two components: the Special Statutory Funding Program for Type I Diabetes Research (SDP) and the Special Diabetes Program for Indians (SDP-I). The SDP funds research that leads directly to the development of new insights and therapies to improve the lives of the 38.4 million Americans with diabetes and 97.6 million with pre diabetes, and accelerate progress towards finding a cure.
