Following the election, many of us want to understand what happened and how we move forward. Colorado was a bright spot in the nation, and we must be honest about the challenges we faced and focus on how we can be as successful as possible in 2025 and 2026.
The first thing we did was conduct a post-election survey to learn what people were feeling and thinking — we want to share some of what we learned.
We asked what you all were thinking, following the election: Understandably, folks expressed feelings of sadness and disappointment with the election results. Many pointed to their fear of what could happen over the coming years, especially to reproductive freedom, education, and our democratic institutions. Many folks touched on how important it is to figure out a path forward for Democrats that makes our values and priorities crystal clear.
We asked what lessons we should learn from this election: Understanding how to genuinely connect with working-class families, blue-collar workers, rural communities, and folks who feel alienated by our Party was something we heard consistently. Especially with our fragmented media landscape, folks identified the need to reach voters wherever they are, on TV, on social media, on podcasts, and in person.
Another thing we heard a lot of was how grateful folks felt to live in Colorado.
While we certainly didn’t get all of the outcomes we wanted, Colorado had one of the smallest swings to the right across the entire country and scored wins Democrats are looking to for inspiration. We secured some crucial victories like maintaining Democratic control of the state legislature, protecting our gold-standard election system from dark-moneyed special interests, safeguarding public school funding, and enshrining reproductive freedom and marriage equality as constitutional rights in our state.
Here in Colorado, we are already winning fights for the values and priorities we care about. We hope our work to bring new voices into our Party will speak to everyday families and rural communities that can be a model for Democrats across the country.
The task ahead will not be easy, but we cannot express how invaluable your insight will be in strengthening and expanding our Party in the years ahead – the country is looking to us to lead. We know Colorado can help lead Democrats forward, and we’ll be better off with you on our side, John.
