 Dear Friend,
Over the past year, we’ve made a lot of progress to fix the damn roads, bridges, and everything in between.
As this construction season comes to a close, we have fixed nearly 23,000 lane miles of road and 1,600 bridges since I took office. That’s enough to pave a road from the Indiana border to the Mackinac Bridge 72 times. As we look to the new year, we are staying focused on rebuilding our roads and bridges with the right mix and materials, so they stay fixed, supporting tens of thousands of good-paying construction jobs along the way.
More Michiganders are working in construction today than at any point in the last 22 years. They are rolling up their sleeves to fix the damn roads from major stretches of our highways to important thoroughfares. They also have been working hard to restore our vital water infrastructure and build new homes across our state.
Together, we are rebuilding our infrastructure, revitalizing communities, and building a brighter future for Michigan.
See more details below, including the key road projects we have completed or made major progress on in 2024.
Sincerely,
 Gretchen Whitmer
Governor
Getting Our Hands Dirty – Finishing Major Road Projects
As we end this construction season, we have fixed nearly 23,000 lane miles of road and 1,600 bridges since I took office. This year, we added $700 million to rebuild our roads through the Rebuilding Michigan Plan to keep building up our most economically vital highways and bridges without raising taxes by a dime.
Over the last few months, Michiganders have seen completion or major progress of several key projects across the state including:
Key upcoming Rebuilding Michigan projects include work on I-94 near Detroit Metro Airport, I-696 from Southfield through Warren, and a critical bridge project in Erie Township.
The new balanced, bipartisan FY 2025 budget I signed invests another $4.2 billion into our roads and bridges, on top of $1.7 billion from the Biden-Harris administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
