# More than 40% of married same-sex couples surveyed want to have children in the future

Our new study finds more than 40% of the married same-sex couples we surveyed want to have children in the future. A significantly larger percentage of participants viewed biological pathways to parenthood, such as insemination, surrogacy, and in vitro fertilization, as ideal compared to non-biological options like adoption. The number one barrier to having kids was cost, followed by reproductive limitations and fear of discrimination.

# Ari Shaw presents at ILGA World Conference

Last month, Ari Shaw, the Williams Institute's Senior Fellow and Director of International Programs, appeared on two panels at the 31st ILGA World Conference in Cape Town, South Africa. The first panel examined democratic backsliding and LGBTQ representation in political parties with colleagues from the Victory institute and the National Democratic Institute. On the second panel, Ari discussed how data can enhance LGBTI inclusion with the UN Development Programme.
