More information about the Rosy Mound Expansion

Ottawa County Parks is now nearing completion of the acquisition of an additional 127-acre property adjacent to the current Rosy Mound Natural Area with the intention of integrating the two properties and expanding the experiences provided at the existing park. The property is a former sand mine to the northeast of Rosy Mound and has been a high priority target for the OCPRC since the first parks plan in 1989. With the new property’s abundant natural features and scenic beauty, the site offers tremendous opportunities for recreation, connectivity, place-making, improved natural resource management, and restoration.

Project Funding

The majority of the funding for the Rosy Mound Expansion comes from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund (MNRTF). Thanks to the MNRTF grants, a donation from the owner, and funding from the Ottawa County Parks Foundation [ [link removed] ], all but $250,000 of the $4,700,000 project costs are covered by grant dollars or donations.

If you are interested in supporting the Ottawa County Parks Foundation on projects like these, you can learn more here [ [link removed] ].

Quick facts:

* This property features 108 acres of designated critical dune.
* If acquired, it would create a 291-acre park and potentially double the size of the hiking trail system
* The $250,000 project balance will come from the Ottawa County Parks & Recreation millage. This project would not be possible without the support of Ottawa County taxpayers who approved and have twice renewed our 0.33 millage.
