Hi John,
Thousands of taxpayers like you helped a federal minister realize it’s wrong to make taxpayers pay for Taylor Swift concert tickets.
Thanks to your action, federal Emergency Preparedness Minister Harjit Sajjan grew a conscience and decided to turn down taxpayer-funded tickets to watch Taylor Swift perform.
You sent a loud message to every politician that they need to keep their hands out of the taxpayer cookie jar.
Sajjan initially accepted two tickets to attend Swift’s concert as a guest of B.C. PavCo, the Crown corporation that operates B.C. Place Stadium. In other words, taxpayers were on the hook for Sajjan’s tickets.
You and thousands of CTF supporters sent Sajjan emails while your spokespeople at the CTF went on a media blitz to spread a simple message: If politicians want to watch a concert, they should pay for them instead of sticking taxpayers with the bill.
Your message was heard loud and clear. Because of you, Sajjan was forced to decline the tickets.
This story proves a key point: The first step to stopping wasteful spending is to drag it out into the sunlight.
The good news is that you have an investigative reporter at the CTF named Ryan Thorpe. And you can get the inside scoop on wasteful spending he’s digging up. It’s all in Ryan’s weekly Waste Watch newsletter that’s completely free.
