I want to tell you a little about my trip to Washington, DC this week to honor the victims of the Sandy Hook shooting 12 years ago and fight to make sure not one more community bears this unspeakable pain. Tomorrow marks 12 years since a mass shooter stole the lives of 20 children and 6 staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.

I traveled to Washington, DC, this week to honor those we lost 12 years ago and all those impacted by gun violence and mass shootings with an annual vigil and day of action.

But devastatingly, the number of survivors, victims’ families, and others impacted by gun violence grows yearly at our vigil because of Congressional inaction and stalling.

Last year, Senate Republicans even BLOCKED a vote to nationally ban assault weapons like the one used at Sandy Hook.

We’re fed up with their deadly inaction, especially after over 480 mass shootings in 2024.

This is sickening.

Over one million Americans have been killed or injured by guns since the Sandy Hook shooting.

That’s nearly 275 Americans directly impacted by gun violence every single DAY.

Every moment that we wait, the lives of HUNDREDS of children, siblings, and parents are at risk.

But meanwhile, Senate Republicans sit idly by while gun violence continues to RAMPAGE throughout our schools, towns, and communities.

This is as high stakes as it gets. We will NOT stop fighting until an assault weapons ban gets another vote on the Senate floor. But Congress only has a couple days left to do it – there’s NO time to waste before Trump and his gun-lobby-backed cronies take back power.
