After a busy year or cycle, many campaigns or organizations end up with significantly more records than they started with. While more records often mean more opportunities for outreach, some may not be as useful as others. Duplicate records, or "dupes," can creep into databases despite our best efforts to maintain clean data.
Dupes happen for various reasons. A supporter or donor might fill out a form with updated information, like a new address or a name change. Staff might accidentally enter the same information twice due to miscommunication. Whatever the cause, cleaning up duplicates is a vital step to ensure accurate and reliable data.
You can easily find and merge duplicate records through a few different methods:
• Using Quick Look Up to identify one or two known duplicates
• Going to My List using the Duplicates tool to help you find duplicates you might not know about
• From an individual contact record
