Dear Friend,
My name is Kate Cox. Last December, the Texas Supreme Court denied my request for an emergency abortion, despite a fatal fetal diagnosis and severe risks to my health and future fertility. I was the first pregnant woman to ask a court's permission to access an emergency abortion since the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
In the midst of my health crisis, the Center for Reproductive Rights was my champion. Today, they continue fighting for everyone facing the devastating impacts of harmful abortion bans. They need your help now more than ever—because something must change.
At 19 weeks pregnant, I learned my pregnancy had Trisomy 18, a fatal genetic condition. My husband and I were shattered. My doctor said an abortion was necessary to protect my health—but Texas law said otherwise.
Instead of receiving care, I was treated like a criminal. My husband and I were told we could be prosecuted simply for seeking critical health care. I was forced to flee my home state to get the procedure I needed.
This is the harsh reality of abortion bans. Medical exceptions to abortion bans do not work. The horrifying experience and trauma of being denied basic medical care compounded our grief, and no family should have to endure this.
If my story has moved you, please support the Center for Reproductive Rights today. Right now, your gift will go 5X as far.
The Center represented me when I needed them most, and they are still on the front lines, fighting tirelessly for families like mine. Your support is the reason they can be there for those whose rights and lives are at stake. It was donors like you who made it possible for the Center to represent me during the most challenging moment of my life.
With your generosity, we can push for change and protect the future of reproductive rights in Texas and around the world.
