Dear NRDC Supporter,
President-elect Trump has already announced many of his picks for key positions in his administration — including for the heads of many agencies whose work directly impacts the environment and our ability to protect it.
If confirmed, these officials would be tasked with carrying out the Trump administration’s Project 2025 agenda — their blueprint to dismantle environmental protections and eliminate climate change solutions.
NRDC is ready to fight back in and out of court to block the worst of Trump’s anti-environment agenda. Here’s what you need to know about these prospective nominees:
Lee Zeldin, Environmental Protection Agency
|
- Who he is: Former U.S. representative for New York’s District 1
- What he’ll do: Zeldin said in a Fox News interview that environmental regulations are “causing businesses to go in the wrong direction” and that the agency could begin reversing them on day one — a continuation of the first Trump administration’s devastating environmental rollbacks.
|
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Department of Health and Human Services
|
- Who he is: A well-known anti-vaccine advocate
- What he’ll do: As leader of the federal government’s health, well-being, and medical programs, he has signaled he would kick off information-gathering efforts that experts worry could chill essential scientific research development. Early in his career, Kennedy was an attorney at NRDC but has since evolved into a figure questioning scientific consensus on many issues who no longer resembles the science-centered environmentalist of decades ago.
|
Doug Burgum, Department of the Interior
|
- Who he is: Governor of North Dakota with close ties to the oil and gas industry
- What he’ll do: Trump has made no secret of his Project 2025 plan to open more public lands and ocean waters to the dangers of oil and gas drilling — and Burgum is the person to spearhead the plan.
|
Chris Wright, Department of Energy
|
- Who he is: Oil-industry executive
- What he’ll do: Wright has denied the impacts of climate change and advocated for greater use of dirty fossil fuels around the globe.
|
Sean Duffy, Department of Transportation
|
- Who he is: Current Fox News host, former U.S. representative for Wisconsin’s District 7
- What he’ll do: With his rhetoric on TV against electric vehicles, Duffy has positioned himself against the transition to a cleaner, safer transportation system.

These prospective nominees are ready to help drive forward Trump’s anti-environment agenda and gut bedrock environmental protections — but, because of your support, we’re ready to fight back. NRDC sued the first Trump administration 163 times and won victories in nearly 90% of resolved cases — and we’re ready to use our full legal muscle again in the next Trump administration.
Help NRDC defend our planet from the Trump administration’s anti-environment agenda.
Sincerely,
Alexandra Adams
