John,
Since 2021, The Sentencing Project and our allies have urged the White House to commute the sentences of individuals on CARES Act home confinement to protect thousands of individuals from being needlessly returned to federal prison. This week, that advocacy was successful: President Biden announced that he was commuting the sentences of nearly 1,500 individuals placed on home confinement during the Covid-19 pandemic who had successfully reintegrated into the community, as well as pardoning 39 individuals convicted of nonviolent crimes. His bold action will ensure that thousands of families remain together and ease the fears of many this holiday season. For many deserving individuals, however, mercy has yet to arrive.
Join us in sending a message to the White House [[link removed]] . Thank President Biden for granting clemency to people on CARES Act home confinement and urge him to bring more people home from federal prisons today. There are many deserving individuals – like people serving sentences for crimes far longer than they would receive today, elderly individuals, and people who have served decades and no longer pose any risk to the community.
Tell President Biden that you want him to lead with compassion and mercy. Your voice can help reunite families this holiday season. Click here [[link removed]] for a sample message to send to the White House.
