With the year coming to an end, I’ve been thinking about all that we’ve accomplished together this year. Here are a few of the highlights:
✅ Modernizing our tax system. This year, we launched the Maryland Tax Connect portal for businesses and announced that Maryland will be taking part in the IRS Direct File program next year. Both allow individuals and businesses to file their taxes more easily and efficiently! We have more work to do, but we’re making great strides, slowly but surely.
✅ Releasing comprehensive research reports. Throughout the year, our team at the Office of the Comptroller has released multiple reports, including the State of the Economy Report, the Immigration and the Economy Report, and the Maryland Procurement Playbook. These reports have provided valuable insight into the issues impacted by our work and provide important data for our policymakers.
✅ Being out on the campaign trail! This year, I did everything I could to support Democratic candidates up and down the ballot here in our state. While the national election results were disappointing, we have so much to be proud of here in Maryland, including electing Angela Alsobrooks to the U.S. Senate and passing the Reproductive Freedom Referendum, which safeguards reproductive rights in our state constitution for generations to come.
✅ Making important investments in the Pension System! Just last month we codified our emerging managers program, solidifying our pension system’s commitment to engage with diverse and smaller managers to help us meet our investment goals. And soon, we’ll be adopting the nation’s second climate advisory council to help us lower long-term risks for our pension fund by treating climate risk as the investment risk it is!
I appreciate your continued support throughout the year and all that you do. Thank you!
My very best,
(She, Her, Hers)
