Dear Friend,

Australian families and businesses need cheaper, cleaner and consistent energy.

But the opposite is happening under Anthony Albanese and Chris Bowen’s energy policy mess.

Power prices have not come down by $275 as you were promised on 97 occasions.

Instead, families are paying up to $1,000 more than promised. Small business electricity prices have risen by up to 52 per cent.

Australians are paying some of the highest electricity costs in the world. And higher power prices mean you pay more for everything – for food, goods and services.

Emissions have gone up under Labor – not down.

And our energy grid has never been more unstable with the energy market operator warning of blackouts and brownouts.

Here’s the important point: things are only going to get worse under Labor.

The Government is pushing ahead with a reckless all-eggs-in-one-basket renewables-only plan.

Highly respected and independent economists and energy experts, Frontier Economics, costed Labor’s plan.

It doesn’t cost $122 billion as you’ve been told by Labor. According to Frontier Economics’ analysis, it costs five times more!

Economist Danny Price says, “Australians deserve to have an alternative to AEMO’s renewables only approach that they can consider. The Coalition’s proposal saves hundreds of billions, money that could be used elsewhere in the economy to improve everyone’s standard of living.”

Frontier Economics has also costed our plan – a balanced energy mix of renewables, gas and nuclear power.

The Coalition’s plan will save Australians up to $263 billion – it costs 44 per cent less than Labor’s renewables-only plan.

The time for nuclear energy in Australia has come.

Zero-emissions nuclear power will also enable us to achieve net-zero emissions sooner.
Australia must embrace nuclear power.

And as the Coalition seeks to move Australia towards becoming a nuclear-powered nation, we will ramp-up domestic gas production in the more immediate term to get power prices down and restore stability to our grid.

I make no apologies for taking to this election a bold and visionary policy.

We need to move beyond political short-termism. We need to do what’s in the national interest. We need to set this country up for generations to come.

Kind regards,

Peter Dutton
Leader of the Opposition
