We’re thrilled to share that Rep. Amanda Swope (D-Tulsa) is stepping into a historic new role as Tulsa’s first Director of Tribal Policy and Partnerships. Starting January 29, 2025, Amanda will work alongside Mayor Monroe Nichols to strengthen Tulsa’s relationships with tribal nations and tackle key issues.

As a citizen of the Muscogee Nation and of Osage descent, Amanda brings unique experience and perspective to this role. She’s a proven leader, having served in the Legislature since 2022 and as the first tribal citizen to chair the Tulsa County Democratic Party from 2019 to 2022. She’s also worked within tribal government, making her the perfect fit for this position.

Amanda’s move means she’ll have to step down from her HD 71 seat. A special election will be scheduled to fill the vacancy, giving Tulsa voters the chance to continue her legacy of strong leadership.

“Public service runs in my family, and I’m honored to be asked by Mayor Nichols to serve Tulsa in this new way,” Amanda said. “Together, we will work to strengthen relationships with tribal nations and co-govern in a way that works for everyone.”

Mayor Nichols created this position as part of his vision to co-govern with tribal nations whose reservations overlap with Tulsa. Amanda’s leadership will be vital as the city navigates complex jurisdictional issues and continues to stand firmly on the side of tribal sovereignty.

Please join us in congratulating Amanda on this exciting next step. We’re so proud of her accomplishments and look forward to seeing all she’ll achieve in this groundbreaking role.
