This morning, President Biden commuted the
sentences of 1,500 people and pardoned 39 individuals convicted of
nonviolent crimes. This is the largest grant of clemency by an American
president in a single day and we made this happen.

I applaud President Biden for demonstrating the power of clemency to
address systemic injustices, reunite families, and set our nation on a
path to healing.

By taking this historic action, President Biden is ensuring 1,500 people
can remain in community with their loved ones. People on home confinement
are disproportionately elderly, chronically ill, pose no threat to public
safety, and have successfully reintegrated into their communities. I
congratulate each and every family on this new beginning.

This is a meaningful step, and President Biden has indicated he will
continue to review cases and issue pardons before his term ends. With 39
days remaining in his presidency, he has the power to continue to use his
clemency authority to change and save the lives of many, many other
Americans behind the wall — including and especially the 40 individuals on
federal death row. It is the right thing to do, it is the moral thing to
do, and it is a matter of legacy. I’m going to do everything in my power
to keep up the momentum and advocate for this — and I need you to stay in
this fight with me. [ [link removed] ]If you’re able to,

Onward,
