Dear John, This morning, Mayor Eric Adams had a sit-down meeting with Tom Homan – Donald Trump’s incoming “immigration czar.” In case you need a quick refresher, John, Tom Homan is a former border patrol agent who led ICE during the first Trump administration. He’s the guy who led the cruel “Zero Tolerance” policy of family separation. And for the past month, Homan has been telling anyone who will listen about his new plans for mass deportation – which extend even to U.S. citizen children in mixed status families. Homan will tear families apart, shattering the safety and security of communities across our five boroughs. So why is our Mayor meeting with him? Mayor Adams’s open-armed embrace of Trump’s xenophobic policies is a betrayal to New Yorkers everywhere. He’s so focused on cozying up to the incoming Trump administration, that he’s willing to deny people due process and put the safety of families at risk. New Yorkers stand up for our immigrant neighbors, John. We're the greatest immigrant city on earth. It’s high time that we had a Mayor who acted like it.
