John,
In November of last year, the Daily Beast reported on a pro-Trump Super PAC that took money from the Small Business Administration’s COVID Loan program–which is prohibited.
Now, take a look at that same Super PAC’s spending:
$0 spent on independent expenditures (IEs) to help the candidates they were claiming to support. $661,979 paid to the PAC’s operator itself. In other words, this Super PAC scammed people into donating and then enriched its operators.
This is an issue that spans both sides of the aisle. Scam PACs send hysterical emails to try and scare people into donating, and then don’t actually use the money for what they promised.
Katie has introduced two bills to hold Scam PACs accountable for their despicable behavior. One would ban PAC operators from enriching themselves or their family members with the money they raise. The second bill would close loopholes so the Federal Election Commission can go after these scammers.
Truth to Power is the anti-Scam PAC, we endorse and financially support real candidates who will carry on Katie’s fights against corruption in Washington. We also spread awareness about this issue—it’s not right that scammers are lining their pockets through deception.
Whether you can afford to donate today or not, thank you so much for your support.
With gratitude,
Team Truth to Power
