In an outrageous move, North Carolina legislative Republicans just ignored the people of western North Carolina and undermined the voters of our state.

GOP legislators just voted to override Governor Cooper’s veto of their bill that instead of providing relief for western North Carolina, strips away power from incoming popularly-elected Democratic leaders. They care more about their power grab than the people of western North Carolina.

Just last month, North Carolina voters rejected the far-right’s agenda, elected Democratic leadership, and broke the GOP’s legislative supermajority — that’s why GOP legislators are pushing this bill through in the final weeks before new lawmakers are sworn in.

Let me be clear: Republicans may be attempting to hamstring our administration before we can even take office, but this sham bill won’t stop me from delivering the brighter future our people deserve.

Meanwhile, I’ll work hard to get western North Carolina real relief — and I won’t stop until communities are restored.
