John,
Donald Trump has nominated Russell Vought to be the Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) – the most important office you’ve never heard of.
Think about it: Management (people) + Budget (money) → Aren’t those the two most important things for running a government that works for all of us? The OMB serves a critical role in the administration, with the power to develop budgets and oversee federal agencies and their personnel.
And one particular agency has caught more of Vought’s attention than any other: the Environmental Protection Agency. Here’s what he was caught on camera saying:
“When they wake up in the morning, we want them to not want to go to work because they are increasingly viewed as the villain. We want their funding to be shut down so that the EPA can't do all of the rules against our energy industry because they have no bandwidth financially to do so. We want to put them in trauma.”
John, this is not the leadership our country needs. This nomination is a direct threat to our health, safety and climate because Vought wants to fire nonpartisan scientists and experts and replace them with political appointees. We need you to stand with us — can you sign on to oppose Vought’s nomination?

For a president-elect who promised he had nothing to do with Project 2025, Trump has been using it as a who’s who for his most important appointments. Russell Vought is a driving force behind this radical agenda, and if appointed would weaken EPA's ability to hold polluters accountable, undo clean energy investments and undermine scientists working on a healthier and safer future for everyone.
Next month, Senators will hold confirmation hearings on Trump’s nominees — and they are likely to come fast and in a flurry. That’s why we need your help to fight to protect our climate progress NOW. Click here to stand against Vought’s nomination today.
Thank you,
EDF Action
