Thanks to the work of you and this fair maps movement, our congressional maps are the fairest they’ve been in 40 years.

These maps held the line this election cycle.

Everything mostly final: The final House seat margin is set to be mostly in line with the House popular vote margin.

When a close election leads to a close margin of seats, it means fair maps are working. That’s good news for democracy , and shows that our efforts are paying off.

Take a look at this graph, originally from The New York Times , that shows the Republican advantage plummeting in the years since NDRC began doing this work:

With focused effort, we decreased the Republican structural advantage from the egregiously gerrymandered maps from 23 seats in 2012, to 11 seats in 2020, to just three seats in 2022.

It’s clear that the House is up for grabs in 2026. So without a doubt, we should anticipate Republican attempts to gerrymander in the years ahead. (Remember that in the era of perpetual redistricting, voters haven't had the same House map for two elections in a row since 2014!)

We must be ready to fight back against their power-grabbing efforts and continue to increase the number of fair maps — the number of “toss up” seats — so that pro-democracy leaders have a chance to win no matter where they run.
