Friend, when we invest in girls’ education and uphold their
rights, the impact is immediate, transformative and limitless. Families, communities and
economies are strengthened, and their futures are brighter.
We invite you to meet Chisomo Daimon. She is a bright university student in Malawi and
a former recipient of the K.I.N.D. (Kids in Need of Desks) Fund scholarship, well on her way to pursuing her dream of becoming a pharmacist.
During Chisomo’s first year of high school, she visited a pharmacy for the first time, and it was on this visit that she was inspired to become a pharmacist. She has since made it her goal to continue her higher education in medicine.
As a result of her hard work and ambition, and K.I.N.D. Fund supporters, Chisomo was accepted to Mzuzu University and began her classes this year.
Every day, Chisomo works hard, excels in school and is dedicated to achieving her dream of becoming a pharmacist. Chisomo earned the highest scores on her exams out of the 151 girls at her high school – many of whom can attend school thanks to The K.I.N.D. Fund and UNICEF USA’s investment in girls’ education.
Chisomo’s story of resilience and ambition for the future is like that of so many young girls around the world who aspire to create better futures for themselves and those around them. Yet, 119 million girls are out of school, and access to education is restricted by barriers like poverty, child marriage and gender-based violence.
Across the globe, UNICEF is reducing these barriers and advocating for girls’ wellbeing, health and education to be able to reach their full potential.
UNICEF is:
- Making education more affordable by providing essential learning supplies and covering tuition fees.
- Keeping girls safe by preventing gender-based violence and child marriage.
- Providing sanitation facilities for young children to manage their periods.
Today, make a gift to the K.I.N.D. Fund to help lower barriers to education and give every girl a chance to learn and fulfill their dreams >>
