Earlier this month, I had the privilege of spending a week on Capitol Hill with other newly-elected members of Congress for freshman orientation.

I’m excited to re-join my colleagues in the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and to continue meeting the rest of the new members. We have a lot of work ahead of us, but I can’t wait to get started.

Republicans may have narrowly secured a trifecta, but passing their agenda isn’t going to be an easy task.

And their majority could narrow further thanks to Trump's selection of a number of Republican lawmakers for key jobs in his incoming administration—there’s already one vacancy after Matt Gaetz’s resignation.

If even one Republican congressmember doesn’t vote with the rest, they won’t be able to pass any legislation.

As Democrats, we have a job to do. It’s time to keep advocating for the policies that people want and to protect the at-risk policies that benefit people across the country.

For me, that looks like championing commonsense gun legislation, fighting for immigration reform, protecting the Affordable Care Act, and standing up for reproductive health care.

There’s so much we can do to move our country forward, and I’m ready to get to work.

I hope you'll continue to stand with me during this next chapter, John. Will you consider giving a recurring contribution of even just $3 to help advocate for people-first policies in Congress? >>
