Homebuilding Industry Voices Concern About Vacant Land Tax Proposal
CHBA BC

The federal government is proposing a new vacant land tax which would enable provinces and municipalities to adopt and administer a tax on lands that are vacant, residentially (or mixed-use) zoned, serviceable by municipal infrastructure, and physically developable. The federal consultation is open until December 31, and CHBA National intends to send in a submission further to their previous letter on the issue.

To amplify member concerns, CHBA BC has also drafted a letter to the provincial Minister of Finance and Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs to take a proactive stance at the provincial level and raise our significant concerns about adopting this tax in BC.

This letter will also be shared with CHBA National and the political offices of federal Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland and federal Housing Minister Sean Fraser to ensure alignment in our advocacy.

WorkSafeBC
