John,
Donald Trump’s latest move to protect his billionaire allies? Nominating Billy Long, a former congressman with a radical history of trying to abolish the IRS entirely, as the next IRS Commissioner.[1]
Long co-sponsored legislation to replace the income tax, payroll tax, and other federal taxes with a regressive 30% national sales tax—one that would make working families pay more while giving the wealthiest Americans yet another free pass.
After leaving Congress, Long even worked in a fraud-ridden industry exploiting COVID-era tax credits, further proving his unfitness to lead the nation’s top tax enforcement agency.[2]
Trump and Long want to undo the progress that current IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel has made in cracking down on wealthy and corporate tax cheats; implementing Direct File, a free online tax filing system that saved taxpayers millions of dollars during the 2024 pilot period; better serving everyday taxpayers and small businesses by eliminating the backlog of tax returns and cutting call wait times from 28 minutes down to just 3 minutes while answering 3 million more calls last year than the year before.[3]
Werfel, who was nominated by President Biden, has a term that ends in 2027, but Trump wants to replace him next year.
We’re mobilizing a nationwide campaign to stop Trump’s nomination, but we need your help to power our fight. Every dollar you give fuels our efforts to expose Trump’s plan to allow the rich and corporations to evade taxes with impunity.
Will you donate $15, $25, or even $50 to help us protect the IRS from Trump’s takeover and continue to hold wealthy and corporate tax cheats accountable?
The current IRS Commissioner has led the agency to recover over $1 billion from wealthy tax cheats,[4] notified Microsoft that it owes $29 billion in taxes,[5] and announced the audits of 60 giant corporations that, together, make more than $500 billion in profits each year.[6]
Given his history, Billy Long’s appointment would undoubtedly undo this progress and open the floodgates for billionaires and corporations to evade taxes, draining resources needed for schools, healthcare, infrastructure, and other public services; widening economic inequality; and running up more debt.
Trump’s scheme is clear: gut the IRS from within, protect his wealthy tax cheat donors, and make hardworking Americans pay for billionaire tax evasion. We refuse to let that happen.
Please make a donation right now to help us fight this takeover and ensure the IRS continues to serve the American public, not the powerful few.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your secure donation will go through immediately:
With your support, we’ll hold the line, fight for tax fairness, and ensure that the IRS serves the public, not billionaire elites.
Thank you for standing with us,
