Late on Friday night, when they hoped nobody was paying attention, President Trump fired the Inspector General (IG) of the Department of State, Steve A. Linick.
According to a White House official, Linick was fired at the urging of Secretary Mike Pompeo. We learned today that the IG's office had sought to interview Pompeo as part of its investigation into last year's controversial $8 billion arms sale to Saudi Arabia — which, in an unprecedented move, bypassed the long-established and codified Congressional arms sale review process.
The revelation that Pompeo had refused to be interviewed as part of the IG investigation is a bombshell and elevates the need for immediate scrutiny of his role in Linick's sudden removal — as well as a separate investigation into the circumstances surrounding that arms sale.
Add your name here to urge the House to immediately call fired State Department IG, Steve Linick, to testify under oath to find out what he was investigating and what Trump and Pompeo are trying to hide!
This firing is the fourth inspector general that Trump has dismissed in the last six weeks — and its part of an escalating pattern of attacking anyone who tries to hold the Trump administration accountable to the rule of law.
Trump clearly believes that he and his administration are above the law. And Trump and his allies are ready to do or say anything to stay in power.
With less than 170 days until the November election, we need to fight back hard to defend our democracy.
Sign here to call upon the House to have Steve A. Linick testify and shine a light on the Trump administration’s pattern of silencing statutory IGs for carrying out their jobs and investigating his administration’s misconduct!
Thank you,
Chris
