Dear John,

My name is Jasmina Čekrić, and I’m a tobacco control advocate from Bosnia and Herzegovina. As a young person, I’m passionate about using policy advocacy to build a healthier future for my generation.

Working with the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, I had the privilege of attending the first-ever Global Young Ambassadors Summit in Istanbul along with dozens of other advocates from around the world.

The summit was an invaluable experience. It allowed me to learn from my peers about the strategies they’ve used to advocate for policy change in their countries. I came away from the summit with renewed confidence that young people like me have the power to make a meaningful difference in our communities and across the globe.

Now, as executive director of PROI, an organization empowering youth-led advocacy initiatives in Bosnia and Herzegovina, I’m taking my advocacy to the next level.

I played a key role in supporting the successful implementation of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s new tobacco control law , which bans smoking in most public places, restricts additives and flavors in cigarettes, and imposes health warnings on all tobacco products.

To support the law, I worked closely with members of Parliament, helped draft bylaws, and assisted businesses and law enforcement in adapting to the new regulations. I also led media campaigns to raise awareness about the importance of this law in protecting our youth.

One of my proudest accomplishments is creating a "learning by doing" model to educate young people, equipping them with practical advocacy skills and supporting their participation in public health initiatives.

Through these efforts, I’m striving to create a world where young people are engaged in advocating for their health and well-being, and where policy change leads to lasting impact.

I’m grateful to the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids for standing with me in the fight for a healthier future – for the youth of Bosnia and Herzegovina and for young people worldwide.

I hope you’ll stand with me too.

– Jasmina
