My 4‑H story began at the local fair. Eight‑year‑old Ronak didn't leave his comfort zone, lacked confidence, avoided risk, and rarely made an effort to make new friends or participate in class. But then, I had one of those magical 4‑H experiences you've probably heard about.
During a 4‑H programming workshop, my class faced a coding problem. I came up with a creative solution using concepts from prior lessons, and after mustering up the courage, I presented it to the teacher and guided my peers through each step. Unexpectedly, I was met with cheers of gratitude and appreciation. It was at that moment that I realized that volunteering to help is an act of leadership.
This 4‑H workshop experience ignited a spark in me. At school, my teachers started to recognize my passions and interests — giving me more opportunities to further my skills. By helping my peers with assignments and taking new approaches to projects, I grew more confident each day.
To this day, my spark hasn't fizzled out. I became even more passionate about competitive robotics through 4‑H. I formed strong bonds with teammates and competed at state and national levels. Each experience made me realize my real passion is empowering others—especially youth. I went on to teach in‑person robotics and LEGO Workshops and founded Kids Connect—a global platform that empowers youth to find their passion, grow their confidence, and serve their communities.
4‑H helped me embrace new experiences and achieve countless goals. I explored new project areas like archery, attended national 4‑H events like Ignite, and connected with other 4‑H'ers who are using their knowledge and skills to benefit their communities.
All these experiences shaped me into the person I am today, the one who leaps at opportunities and takes on unknowns with newfound confidence.
While my 4‑H story began when I was eight years old, I continue to write new and exciting chapters. You can read more about me and our YIA Winners.
