John, did you know that it was a busy couple of weeks at the Supreme Court? (Between Trump’s bonkers Cabinet appointments and threats to jail lawmakers on the committee to investigate his attempted January 6 insurrection, it was easy to miss.)
In case you didn't catch them, here are a couple of major highlights — er, lowlights:
- Last week, the court heard United States v. Skrmetti, where the justices have given themselves an opportunity to weigh in on Tennessee’s life-threatening ban on gender affirming care for trans youth.
- Then on Tuesday, the court heard Seven County Infrastructure Coalition v. Eagle County — its annual attempt to roll back a landmark piece of environmental protection legislation. Here, the justices have given themselves a chance to restrict the scope of one of our nation's oldest environmental laws — with dangerous potential consequences for our environment and Americans’ health and safety.
The MAGA justices on this court are laying the groundwork for Trump to impose his dangerous and extreme agenda. Will you help us defend LGBTQ+ rights, voting rights, environmental protections, abortion access and so much more by fighting for a court that works for us, not against us?
Each term, this court gets more brazen in its efforts to restrict our rights and freedoms. And after anointing Trump king this year with a ruling that granted him immunity, the far-right supermajority is feeling especially emboldened.
With a new year and a new Trump administration fast approaching, we’re gearing up to fight back and fight hard. Will you support our work to expose the Supreme Court’s extreme right-wing agenda and strengthen our movement to rein in the rogue justices?
In 2025, we’re hitting the ground running. We need to seize every opportunity to further strengthen our movement so when our chance to reform the court comes, we’re ready. And with your support, I’m confident we will be.
I’m so glad to have you beside us in this fight, especially at this critical juncture. Today and always, thank you.
In solidarity,
Sarah Lipton-Lubet,
President, Take Back the Court Action Fund
