John,
Did you know the U.S. runs the largest immigration detention system in the world?
Many of our neighbors are unaware of this fact. With your support, we can bring these critical truths about immigration to the forefront of public discussion. [[link removed]]
Right now, over 37,000 people are currently locked up in ICE detention centers. ICE is often secretive about its facilities, most of which are located in remote parts of the country away from the public eye.
The American Immigration Council works to reveal the truth about immigration detention and advocate for better, more humane alternatives. [[link removed]]

Here are some facts about immigration detention you may not know:
* ICE spending has nearly tripled over the past two decades, reaching $9.56 billion in 2024. That’s more than the government’s entire budget for the immigration court system and USCIS’ asylum division combined.
* People held in detention regularly report inhumane conditions , including medical neglect, abuse and assault, and due process violations.
* Unlike in the criminal justice system, detained immigrants are not entitled to an attorney. Recent data shows that nearly 70% of immigrants in detention lacked representation.
* Immigration detention is big business for the private prison industry. In 2022, private prison companies GEO Group and CoreCivic were paid over $1 billion dollars to run immigration detention centers.
With your gift, you’ll be a part of the fight for transparency in immigration detention centers and hold ICE accountable.

P.S. President-elect Trump has promised to spend a massive amount of money attacking immigrants. Enforcement operations like mass deportations – which he plans to start Day One – will come with a hefty price tag. That’s why we’re asking if you can make a gift to help us hit our goal of $100k before the new administration’s first 100 days. [[link removed]]
