(LANSING, MICH) Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) Director Anita Fox is reminding Michiganders to purchase a Health Insurance Marketplace plan by December 15, 2024, to ensure their coverage starts on January 1, 2025. While Michiganders can enroll until January 15, 2025, any plans selected after December 15 will begin on February 1, 2025.
"Enroll in a Marketplace health plan by December 15 to ensure you and your family begin the New Year with comprehensive, high-quality health insurance," said *DIFS Director Anita Fox*. "Even if you are satisfied with your current health plan, you should update your HealthCare.gov application to ensure you receive all eligible subsidies. Call DIFS at 877-999-6442 from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or visit Michigan.gov/HealthInsurance [ [link removed] ] for more information on how to get started."
Consumers must select a plan no later than December 15, 2024 for coverage to start on January 1, 2025. Plans purchased between December 15, 2024 and January 15, 2025 will provide coverage beginning February 1, 2025. Thanks to savings put in place by the federal government, health insurance may be more affordable for Michiganders. For 2024, nearly 90% of enrollees qualified for a subsidy, saving an average of more than $380 per month, with many consumers able to get health insurance for less than $10 per month. Open enrollment for 2025 health insurance began November 1, 2024 and runs through January 15, 2025, and nearly 123,000 Michiganders [ [link removed] ] have already enrolled during this year’s Marketplace open enrollment period. Michiganders can shop for a health plan by visiting the Health Insurance Marketplace [ [link removed] ] or by calling 800-318-2596 (TTY: 1-855-889-4325). During open enrollment for 2025 coverage, consumers will be able to choose from 162 health plans on the Marketplace. For the overall individual market, which includes off-Marketplace plans, 222 plans will be available.
