Hey,

While the CARES Act was passed to provide help to those who need it most during this pandemic, the federal government is now punishing the vulnerable Americans this very bill was meant to help.

The administration announced that anyone receiving the additional $600 per week in unemployment payments from the CARES Act will have that money counted as unearned income for SNAP eligibility. That means many families relying on this additional relief will exceed the income threshold, making them ineligible for SNAP.

Though Mississippi tried to appeal this decision, the federal government denied it.

This hot mess of a move is completely cruel. Some 455,000 Mississippians rely on SNAP every day, and they shouldn’t be punished for receiving additional aid during this difficult time.

We need support from our federal government — not rules that punish our most vulnerable. If you agree with me, add your name to my petition calling on the administration to reverse this rule ASAP. [[link removed]]

Thanks for speaking out,

Mike
