In 2014, Eric Garner was tackled and choked to death by an NYPD officer in Staten Island. The medical examiner ruled Eric's death a homicide, but a grand jury chose not to indict the officer who put him in a chokehold, a practice banned by the NYPD in 1993.
Over the past few years, Eric’s wife, Esaw Snipes Garner, worked with a filmmaker to make a unique, powerful film about the trial that should have followed her husband’s death.
It’s called American Trial: The Eric Garner Story, and Innocence Project supporters have an exclusive opportunity to stream the movie from home as part of its debut in virtual theaters all over the world.
